Things they don’t tell you in Vipassana

I have attended the 10 day Vipassana course and based on my experience I want to share some of my thoughts about the Vipassana of SN Goenka affiliated one:

Daily 7:00 to 8:15 pm DVD discourse by S.N. Goenka is the worst part of vipassana retreat. This discourse is a kind of hypnotism, after day long silence and meditation, when your mind is soft and vulnerable, SN Goenka’s DVD will insert some deliberate junks into your mind. Scientists have shown that hypnosis affects psychological, social, and our physical experience. The effects of hypnotism depend on the willingness and motivation of the person being hypnotized. As the person responds to the methods, the person experience different levels of awareness, consciousness, imagination, memory, and reasoning or become more responsive to suggestions. I have attended the course and I feel that the DVD discourse by SN. Goenka is a clear case of hypnotism. Some people can go into hypnosis within a few seconds or minutes. Others cannot be hypnotized easily. The experience of Vipassana is more due to hypnosis then out of meditation.

You may loose your normal sleep. It is reported, many people cannot sleep normally after attending Vipassana SN Goenka affiliated one.

Out of pain tears may come at any moment of any day, there may be little bit joy after pain due to endorphin hormones. Stress and pain are the two most common factors leading to the release of endorphins. Endorphin generates some joy and act similarly to drugs such as morphine and codeine lead to addiction or dependence.
Emotional pain can become an addiction. Addiction don”t win again for a long time, they’ll keep trying, potentially ruining your life.

Some people suffer mental depressions after attending the courses.

Joint Pain is very common problem

Body Pain, Back Pain! are very common

I feel yoga and Zazen meditation are more effective.
